To Be Held at Jangseong Mugunghwa Park on August 15
Jangseong County in Jeollanam-do will hold the 'Mugunghwa Grand Festival' on August 15 to mark the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day.
According to the county on the 11th, this festival is a project selected by the Korea Forest Service to promote the national flower, Mugunghwa, and to foster patriotism.
With the county chosen as the host, it secured 100 million won in funding, including national subsidies. The festival will take place at Jangseong Mugunghwa Park in Jangseong-eup. Family-friendly programs such as a Mugunghwa parade, beauty show, garden decorating, and Taegukgi (Korean flag) making will be offered.
Established in 2021, Jangseong Mugunghwa Park is a renowned site with 46 varieties and over 12,000 Mugunghwa trees planted on a 9,500-square-meter site. The park won the top prize at the 2024 Jeollanam-do Mugunghwa Competition and the top prize for eco-friendly design, and in 2022, it received the top honor as a 'Mugunghwa Attraction' selected by the Korea Forest Service.
Near the park are monuments commemorating the March 1st Movement patriots, the martyrdom of Gi Samyeon, and Korean War veterans, making it a valuable space for historical education.
County Governor Kim Hanjong said, "We will thoroughly prepare to ensure the festival raises awareness of the value of Mugunghwa."
