The police have apprehended a large group of delivery workers involved in insurance fraud.

The Chungnam Provincial Police Agency announced on the 11th that they had arrested 24 delivery workers who deliberately caused traffic accidents and fraudulently claimed approximately 62 million won from insurance companies. They have been referred to the prosecution on charges of violating the Special Act on the Prevention of Insurance Fraud.

Except for one person in their 50s, all of the suspects were found to be in their 20s and 30s.

The police launched an investigation after receiving information that delivery workers were intentionally causing traffic accidents. They confirmed that the main perpetrator, Mr. A (29), orchestrated the scheme by involving other delivery workers to rear-end vehicles, staging accidents to claim insurance payouts.

During questioning, Mr. A denied the allegations, claiming the accidents were due to carelessness. However, when the police presented evidence of collusion and money transfers obtained through digital forensics on his mobile phone, he confessed.

It was revealed that Mr. A lured acquaintances by saying, "You can make money just by being in the car," offering 100,000 won to those who did not participate in the accidents and half of the settlement money to those who did.

Four accomplices enlisted in the military after the crimes but were discovered and criminally charged during their service.

A representative from the Chungnam Provincial Police Agency stated, "Insurance fraud is subject to severe punishment, including up to 10 years in prison, a fine of up to 50 million won, or a 100-day license suspension," and urged, "Please be aware that you will definitely be punished and do not be tempted to commit such acts."
