Calls for the Dissolution of the People Power Party
and the Resignation of Prosecutor General Shim Woo-jung
Opposition lawmakers belonging to the 'Yun Seok-yeol Impeachment National Assembly Members' Coalition' announced on the 11th that they will begin a hunger strike until the Constitutional Court delivers its impeachment ruling on President Yun Seok-yeol, who is accused of insurrection.

They held a press conference at the National Assembly Communication Office on the same day and, through a statement titled 'Entering a Hunger Strike to Restore Constitutional Order and Protect the Constitutional Court,' urged "the Constitutional Court to promptly accept the impeachment."
As three demands from the impeachment coalition, they proposed ▲ the court's re-arrest of President Yun Seok-yeol ex officio ▲ the immediate resignation of Prosecutor General Shim Woo-jung, who gave up the immediate appeal against the decision to cancel President Yun's detention ▲ the dissolution of the People Power Party, which is attempting to intimidate and neutralize the Constitutional Court.
Hwang Un-ha, floor leader of the National Innovation Party, said, "Now that common sense as we know it has been repeatedly broken by legal technicians, democracy is being protected by democratic citizens, the National Assembly, and the Constitutional Court," emphasizing, "Let the people and the National Assembly unite to enable the Constitutional Court to make a proper judgment."
Democratic Party lawmaker Kang Deuk-gu pointed out, "Our constitution clearly states that the president has the duty to uphold the constitution. All presidential acts of governance must be within the framework of the constitution, and if this is not upheld, impeachment is natural."
He continued, "Over the past three years, President Yun Seok-yeol has caused the constitution to collapse and even erased the reason for the government's existence through numerous vetoes, prosecutorial power, and the involvement of the unelected Kim Geon-hee in state affairs. Ultimately, on December 3 last year, armed soldiers stormed the National Assembly under President Yun's orders," adding, "Impeachment is the only answer for the ringleader of the insurrection."
Among them, five lawmakers from the Democratic Party, including Kim Jun-hyeok, Min Hyung-bae, and Park Soo-hyun, will begin a hunger strike in Gwanghwamun starting today until President Yun is dismissed. It is expected that other lawmakers among the 49 members of the impeachment coalition will also participate in relay hunger strikes.
Regarding the hunger strike, lawmaker Min explained, "What we emphasize as we enter the hunger strike is 'protection of the constitutional order,'" adding, "The most important task in protecting the constitutional order is to prevent the far-right or insurrection forces from invading the Constitutional Court, so we are entering the hunger strike with the intention of defending the Constitutional Court."
