This forum was held under the theme “The Return of the Trump World: The Perfect Storm of the MAGA Era is Coming” to explore the global economic outlook with the second term of Trump, its impact on Korea, and corresponding response strategies.
At the forum, Professor Heo Jun-young from the Department of Economics at Sogang University gave a lecture on the overall economic policies of Trump’s second term and the government’s response direction, and explained the policy approaches Gimpo City should take and the role of local governments.
Professor Heo explained, “Due to Trump’s second-term economic policies, U.S.-centered growth and global inflation will occur, which will act as downward factors for Korea’s economic growth and cause price increases, reducing citizens’ real purchasing power.”
In this situation, he emphasized that local governments need to focus on policies for the people’s livelihood economy, acting comprehensively like a lighthouse at the forefront of the fleet, and concluded his lecture by stressing the role of local governments in providing guidance and taking proactive action.
A Gimpo City official said, “Through this forum, it was a meaningful opportunity to analyze the economic context behind Trump’s return, its impact on the world and our country, and to explore the policy approach direction that Gimpo City should pursue.”
Meanwhile, the GP Future Knowledge Forum is held every two months, selecting timely topics such as municipal issues and social problems, with the meaning of accumulating knowledge to prepare for the future of Gimpo (GIMPO).
