Trump Economic Advisor: "US Economy Very Unstable... Tariff Policy a Wrong Judgment"

Steven Moore, who was an economic advisor to U.S. President Donald Trump, expressed a negative view on the U.S. economy.

According to the British daily The Guardian on the 10th (local time), Moore pointed out in an interview with Fox News the day before that "the current U.S. economy is very unstable."

He then referred to the employment report released by the U.S. Department of Labor on the 8th, saying, "Employment was not good, and the consumer confidence index is also declining." He emphasized, "It was a wrong judgment for President Trump to highlight the tariff issue now." This appears to point out that it is not timely to play the tariff card amid unfavorable economic indicators.

Moore said what the U.S. economy needs now is a stimulus package and urged the passage of tax cuts. He stated, "Congress must pass the tax cut bill by the end of May."

Moore served as an economic advisor to the Trump campaign during the 2016 presidential election. In 2019, President Trump nominated Moore as a candidate for the Federal Reserve Board, but he voluntarily withdrew after controversies arose over his qualifications, including sexist remarks.
