According to a compilation of reports by Asia Economy on the 11th, at the first meeting held immediately after the Democratic Party AI Strong Nation Committee inauguration on the 7th, a policy encouraging collaboration among various companies to create a single large language model (LLM) with the government as the central body was discussed. The current administration is also promoting a similar project under the name "World Best LLM." The World Best LLM project is led by the Ministry of Science and ICT, which recruits elite AI teams and fully supports the data and GPUs necessary for LLM development.

A participant in the AI Strong Nation Committee's first meeting said, "Although the current government's policy and conclusions differ, the overall framework of thinking is similar," and added, "We discussed whether it is possible to create a virtuous cycle by establishing an environment that can serve as a central body to enable collaboration among various companies."

The first meeting was attended by Chairman Lee Jae-myung, Floor Deputy Chairman Jeong Dong-young, Non-floor Deputy Chairman Kim Woo-seung, CEO of CrowdWorks, Lee Kyung-il, CEO of Saltlux, Shin Jin-woo, KAIST endowed professor, and Secretary Hwang Jeong-ah. Policy Chief Jin Sung-jun was also present. Representatives from companies engaged in the AI industry, such as Samsung Electronics, SKT, and Naver, proposed policies needed from the corporate perspective.

Since many companies on the industrial frontlines participated in the meeting, there was reportedly deep discussion on securing graphics processing units (GPUs) and neural processing units (NPUs), talent development, and AI models that Korea should focus on. In particular, regarding GPUs and NPUs, it was emphasized that securing devices for service and inference, rather than for training, is important for the competitiveness of domestic companies, and investment is needed.

The meeting lasted about an hour and 30 minutes, longer than expected, as Chairman Lee asked follow-up questions on the companies' policy presentations. Immediately after the meeting, Representative Hwang told reporters, "Many diverse issues were raised, so it is expected to take time to refine them into policies."
