Gyeongbuk Office of Education (Superintendent Lim Jong-sik) announced on the 11th that, according to the analysis of the 2025 high school admission process, a total of 1,561 students from other regions entered high schools in the Gyeongbuk area, including 77 outstanding international students, while 376 students moved out to other regions. The number of incoming students is 4.2 times higher than the number of outgoing students.
This increase in incoming students to Gyeongbuk Office of Education is the result of proactively responding to changes in the educational ecosystem caused by a declining school-age population, demonstrating the growing centripetal force and competitiveness of Gyeongbuk education.
Among the total 1,561 incoming students, 971 students entered Meister high schools (245 incoming students, 29.5% of the total Meister high school admission quota) and specialized high schools (726 incoming students, 17.6% of the specialized high school admission quota), highlighting the significant influx through nationwide recruitment for vocational high schools.
Additionally, the number of incoming students to general academic high schools has also increased. Nationwide general high schools showed an 11% increase in incoming students, and autonomous private high schools saw a 14.3% increase, indicating the rising competitiveness of general academic high schools.
Gyeongbuk Office of Education was the first in the nation to begin attracting international high school students, providing support to help foreign students become self-reliant in Gyeongbuk and contribute to the local community and the nation. Through these efforts, they have achieved results in attracting global talent and strengthening the competitiveness of Gyeongbuk education.
Furthermore, Gyeongbuk has ranked first nationwide in vocational high school employment rates for five consecutive years since 2020, operating customized vocational education programs to produce talent tailored to the needs of companies. By establishing a flexible and integrated vocational education system, the employment success rate of students has increased, further enhancing the competitiveness of vocational high schools.
Lim Jong-sik, Superintendent of Gyeongbuk Office of Education, stated, “The influx of many students from other regions to the learning environment of Gyeongbuk education is due to the belief that challenges for the future and their realization are possible here,” adding, “Warm-hearted Gyeongbuk education, at the center of the world, will be a strong driving force for students striving to realize their dreams.”
