Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation Releases Gold and Silver Medals of 'Pyeongan Gam-sa Dogwa Geupja Hwanyeongdo'

The Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation announced on the 11th that it will release and sell a success wish medal featuring the "Welcome Painting for the Successful Candidates of the Pyeongan Inspector's Provincial Examination."

The Welcome Painting for the Successful Candidates of the Pyeongan Inspector's Provincial Examination is a folding screen (8 panels) style pictorial record depicting a congratulatory event prepared by the Pyeongan Inspector during the late Joseon Dynasty to celebrate the candidates who passed the provincial examination (Gwaseo). This work, of unknown authorship, is currently housed at the Peabody Essex Museum in the United States.

The Overseas Korean Cultural Heritage Foundation (planning) and Samsung Foundation of Culture (pro bono conservation treatment) brought this work to Korea and conducted conservation treatment for 1 year and 4 months. It will be exhibited to domestic visitors at the Leeum Museum of Art from the 11th of this month to the 6th of next month, after which it will be returned to the United States.

The Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation jointly planned and released the success wish medal to commemorate the successful conservation treatment of the Welcome Painting for the Successful Candidates of the Pyeongan Inspector and to encourage public interest in Korean cultural heritage scattered overseas.

The success wish medal incorporates not only the painting but also the design of the Eosahwa Bokdu Gwanmo, the official hat worn by successful candidates in the past, symbolizing the transmission of good fortune to examinees, job seekers, and those awaiting promotion.

The Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation sells the success wish medal at its store located in Mapo-gu, Seoul, as well as through online shopping malls including The Hyundai.com, Hmall, LotteON, and SSG.com.
