ChatGPT Ranks First in Number of Users in the First Week of March
Also the Most Used App for the Longest Time
A survey found that ChatGPT is the generative AI application (app) most widely and longest used across all generations in South Korea.
On the 11th, WiseApp·Retail, an app and retail analysis service, announced the results of a sample survey on the number of users and usage time of generative AI apps by generation among Korean users of Android and iOS smartphones. As a result, in the first week of this month (March 3?9), ChatGPT ranked first in the number of users across all generations.
Among those under 20, the number of users was highest for ChatGPT, followed by Lytton and A.Dot. For those in their 20s and 30s, ChatGPT, Lytton, and Perplexity ranked at the top. In the 40s and 50s age groups, ChatGPT also took first place, followed by A.Dot and Lytton. For those aged 60 and above, the order was ChatGPT, A.Dot, and Microsoft Copilot.

ChatGPT also ranked first in the app used the longest by each generation. However, for those under 30, Lytton and Perplexity competed for second and third places; for those in their 40s, Perplexity and Claude; for those in their 50s, Perplexity and Lytton; and for those aged 60 and above, A.Dot and Lytton vied for second and third places respectively.
This survey selected conversational AI services that generate content such as information search, text, and images or serve as personal assistants, focusing on those with dedicated apps, excluding apps specialized in specific functions like photography, note-taking, or translation.
Meanwhile, ChatGPT is a conversational AI chatbot developed by Open AI, first released in November 2022 and currently offered as a partially paid service. As of February this year, the estimated number of users worldwide is about 400 million. Its biggest feature is that users can easily get answers simply by typing questions into a chat window as if having a conversation.
