Kimchi Launched Under Each Brand Gains Popularity
Product, Weight, and Delivery Cycle Can Be Selected
Kimchi Subscription Available by Season
As premium kimchi launched under each hotel's brand continues to gain steady popularity, hotels are expanding their business by introducing subscription services.
According to the hotel industry on the 11th, Chosun Hotel & Resort started its 'Premium Kimchi Subscription Service' on the 7th.
The kimchi subscription service refers to regularly delivering kimchi to customers who apply. Customers can choose the product, weight, and delivery cycle. For example, subscribing to 1kg of napa cabbage kimchi every two months means kimchi is delivered once every two months.
By selecting options (optional) that suit the type of kimchi and family size, consumers can enjoy a variety of seasonal delicacy kimchis for their desired period. Kimchi can also be subscribed to by season.
Last year, Chosun Hotel's kimchi business sales increased by 46% compared to the previous year. With kimchi sales steadily increasing and the number of 'regular' customers growing, Chosun Hotel launched the subscription service.
As hotel kimchi gains popularity, Paradise Hotel & Resort also entered the kimchi business in October last year. This reflects the recent trend of more customers buying kimchi instead of making it themselves. Their flagship product, the whole napa cabbage kimchi, sold over 10,000 units within four months of its launch.
Lotte Hotel started its kimchi business in August 2023. Kimchi sales from January to February this year showed a clear growth trend, increasing by 47% compared to the same period last year.
Walkerhill Hotel & Resort was the first in the hotel industry to enter the kimchi business. Last year, Walkerhill's kimchi sales increased by 24.6% compared to the previous year. In January, Walkerhill also launched a dedicated application (app) called 'Walkerhill Store App' that sells food products including kimchi, smoked salmon, and Myungwol-gwan marinated meat sets.
They also introduced subscription services early on. Walkerhill started the subscription service for its first kimchi brand, SUPEX, in 2009. The subscription service for their second brand, Walkerhill Kimchi, has been available since December 2022.
