Sacheon City in Gyeongnam announced on the 10th that, starting from the 17th, it will provide free maritime transportation fares for vulnerable groups among island residents.

The beneficiaries of this free fare policy are seniors aged 75 or older and low-income groups (basic livelihood security recipients, near-poor households) who are registered residents of islands such as Sinsudo and Mado in the Sacheon area.

They can use the ferries (Saesinsudoho, Saemadoho) that pass through their registered islands completely free of charge.

However, to receive the free fare benefit, seniors aged 75 or older must present a resident registration card showing their final address as the island at the time of boarding, and low-income individuals must present the relevant certification.

In particular, prior to using the service, individuals must submit a consent form for the provision of personal information to the administrative welfare center in their place of residence in order to receive the free fare benefit.

A city official stated, "Through this free maritime transportation fare policy, we can reduce the transportation cost burden for vulnerable island residents and guarantee their right to mobility, thereby improving the living environment for island residents. We will continue to strive to enhance maritime transportation welfare to make Sacheon a better place to live."
