Equipped with Digital Lecture Rooms and Video Studios for Content Creation
Lifelong Media Education Initiatives to Proactively Respond to Changes in the Media Environment
Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will strengthen the media capabilities of its residents centered around the Village Media Support Center.
According to a recent announcement by a data platform company, 5 out of 10 Koreans watch YouTube for about 2 hours a day. Furthermore, YouTuber consistently ranks high among elementary school students' future career aspirations, making creators a highly admired profession.
In response to these changes in the media environment, the district officially opened the Nowon Village Media Support Center in 2019 to support the activation of residents' content activities through customized media education.
The media education is designed in various ways to help residents access and utilize media. First, newly launched courses this year include a four-session media special lecture series: ▲Special Effects in Movies ▲Roblox and Media Literacy ▲Artificial Intelligence and ChatGPT ▲Smartphone Video Production.
Experiential education is also provided to support career paths for youth and media experiences for young children. This includes career job experiences related to media professions, as well as participation in local festivals such as Children's Day events and lifelong learning festivals, where AI photo booth exhibits are showcased. Additionally, media experiences for children aged 5 to 7 include movie theater etiquette training.
The district also supports residents' content production activities. The ▲Film Production Team ‘Modumoyeocinema’ (hereafter MomoCinema) is a representative example.
MomoCinema operates year-round with a cohort system and consists of about 15 youth members. It provides theoretical and practical mentoring, offers opportunities to produce short films or documentaries, and helps strengthen media-related skills as well as networking. For village media groups composed of residents (13 groups), production activities such as YouTube and podcast creation are supported.
In addition, the district provides not only facility rentals but also equipment loans for content production. High-end filming and audio equipment, essential for production activities but often financially burdensome due to their high cost, are made available for loan to any Nowon resident who completes regular member training.
Detailed schedules, enrollment numbers, and application deadlines for each course can be found on the Nowon Village Media Support Center website, and Nowon residents can participate free of charge.
The Nowon Village Media Support Center spans one basement floor and four above-ground floors, equipped with various facilities including a DVD viewing room, digital lecture room, video studio, one-person media room, editing room, and radio studio.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, stated, “In modern society, SNS is a very important tool for exchanging information and opinions,” and added, “We will spare no effort in providing various education and support so that residents can actively respond to the rapidly changing media environment.”
