Gyeongsan Veterans' Families Anticipate Relief from Inconvenient Travel to Daegu
Gyeongsan City in North Gyeongsang Province has successfully attracted a long-awaited comprehensive hospital-level veterans designated hospital.
On the 10th, Jo Jiyeon, a member of the National Assembly (Gyeongsan City, North Gyeongsang Province) from the People Power Party, announced that according to the results of the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs' public offering, Saemyung Hospital in Gyeongsan City has been finally designated as a comprehensive hospital-level veterans designated hospital.

This achievement of attracting a comprehensive hospital-level veterans designated hospital has been a long-standing goal for Gyeongsan City. In 2014, when the existing clinic-level veterans designated hospital was upgraded to a comprehensive hospital, the previous contract was terminated. This was in accordance with the medical support regulations for national patriots and veterans, which stipulate that if a veterans designated hospital is reclassified as a comprehensive hospital during the contract period, the contract is automatically terminated.
This issue recurred when Saemyung Hospital in Gyeongsan was upgraded to a comprehensive hospital.
In response, Representative Jo actively persuaded the necessity of bringing in the hospital by citing the proportion of veterans' families in Gyeongsan, the inconvenient transportation situation to Daegu Veterans Hospital, and fairness with other regions. She held numerous consultations with the Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs and related officials, ultimately achieving the result of attracting a comprehensive hospital-level veterans designated hospital to Gyeongsan City.
With the establishment of a comprehensive hospital-level veterans designated hospital in Gyeongsan City, the inconvenience of traveling more than 1 hour and 40 minutes by public transportation to Daegu Veterans Hospital can be resolved. In addition, the level of medical services provided to veterans' families will be improved from clinic-level to comprehensive hospital-level.
Representative Jo Jiyeon stated, "I have continuously explained the need to improve the medical environment for veterans' families in Gyeongsan City at the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts of the National Assembly, among others, and as a result, we were able to achieve good results," adding, "I will do my best to ensure that elderly veterans' families who have dedicated themselves to the nation do not experience inconvenience in medical services."
This achievement is expected to enhance medical service accessibility for veterans' families in Gyeongsan City and contribute to strengthening the veterans hospital infrastructure in the North Gyeongsang region.
