Iran: "Illegal Acts and Crimes Against Humanity"
U.S. Halts Iraq's Imports of Iranian Energy
Iran condemned the U.S. decision to block Iraq's imports of Iranian energy as illegal.
According to reports from AFP and Iran's state-run Press TV on the 10th (local time), Esmail Baghaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated in a briefing, "The U.S.'s unilateral sanctions are neither justified nor legally grounded," adding, "They are illegal acts and crimes against humanity."
Spokesperson Baghaei addressed the U.S., saying, "Iran has clearly stated that negotiation approaches based on coercion, harassment, or pressure are meaningless."
He also added that Iran has never closed the door to negotiations and has continued discussions with European countries over the past few months.
On the 8th, the U.S. Department of State announced that it would no longer renew the exemption granted to Iraq regarding sanctions on the import and export of Iranian energy. The U.S. Department of State stated, "Iran is an unreliable energy supplier," and urged "the Iraqi government to eliminate its dependence on Iranian energy sources as soon as possible." The Donald Trump administration is pursuing a "maximum pressure" policy, imposing strong economic sanctions to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
