Strengthening Local Health Promotion Hubs with Opening of Deogyang Health Life Support Center
Goyang Special City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) is helping residents easily use smart technology in their daily lives to take care of their health and supports customized health management through health support centers focused on small living areas.
According to Goyang Special City on the 10th, the city operates a year-round walking challenge using a mobile platform so that residents can experience the health benefits of walking in daily life.
Last year, a total of 4,475 Goyang citizens participated in the walking challenge through the mobile walking app WalkOn. Based on physical activity data from smartphones, health data such as step count and calorie consumption can be measured and analyzed, increasing walking practice rates and enhancing health management capabilities.
Each public health center plans to start a walking challenge using the WalkOn app from May as part of the obesity prevention management project. Various missions such as collecting park stamps will be offered, and participants who complete them will receive promotional items through a lottery.
In December last year, construction of the Smart Health Park in Ansan Park, Baekseok-dong, was completed. Six types of outdoor exercise equipment equipped with Internet of Things (IoT) systems were installed, and by using a dedicated smartphone app, users can systematically manage their health through exercise record analysis. Currently, the Smart Health Park is being monitored for facility inspection and app operation stability, and is scheduled to open in May.
Meanwhile, the Deogyang-gu and Ilsanseo-gu public health centers operate a mobile healthcare project that provides non-face-to-face health management services via smartphone apps. For individuals with health risk factors such as blood pressure, blood sugar, and triglycerides, health center experts provide one-on-one customized health consultations through the app on an ongoing basis. The mobile healthcare health management service is planned to run for 24 weeks starting in May.
Additionally, Deogyang-gu Public Health Center plans to operate a pilot project for blood sugar management services using a smartphone app to prevent chronic diseases. In the second half of this year, 50 participants with health risk factors will be recruited, and experts in disease, nutrition, and exercise will support health management services. By using continuous glucose monitors, participants can check their blood sugar trends in real time, helping them develop healthy lifestyle habits on their own.
Goyang City operates the Health Life Support Center as a local health medical institution that manages and supports residents' healthy lives through resident participation and community cooperation.
The ‘Health Life Support Center Goyang’ located in Goyang-dong, Deogyang-gu, is striving to strengthen residents' health management capabilities by providing services reflecting local characteristics. Starting from the 10th, the ‘Deogyang Health Life Support Center’ will newly open at Naeil Dream Factory in Hwajeong-dong (72 Eunbit-ro, Deogyang-gu). Improved geographical accessibility is expected to actively utilize health management infrastructure.
The Deogyang Health Life Support Center plans to operate health consultations, basic examinations, and educational programs. It will begin accepting appointments for chronic disease prevention and management, physical activity programs, and other services, and will promote customized specialized projects reflecting local health demands and conditions.
Also, the Goyang Citizen Health Center Jungsan, operated by Ilsandong-gu Public Health Center, provides integrated health promotion services focusing on health-vulnerable areas. It promotes resident participation by implementing customized physical activities according to life cycle health consultations, walking programs to form healthy lifestyle habits, and alcohol awareness improvement projects.
Mayor Lee Dong-hwan of Goyang Special City said, “Public health centers faithfully fulfill their role as health managers for citizens by operating a community-based health management platform,” and added, “Since citizens' health is the foundation for realizing a happy city, we will do our best to improve health and medical services.”
Meanwhile, the Gajwa Health Branch of Ilsanseo-gu Public Health Center has been operating a ‘Visiting Health Management Office’ since March, which visits workplaces and living areas directly for busy workers and residents who find it difficult to go out. Professional staff visit resident groups in Gajwa-dong, Deogi-dong, and Songpo-dong to conduct health status checks, physical activity programs, and health education. Currently, 12 groups for this year’s participation are being recruited on a first-come, first-served basis.
