Asan Mayoral By-election Ruling and Opposition Party Candidates Announce Transportation Pledges Including Infrastructure Expansion Sehyun Oh preliminary candidate

The ruling and opposition party candidates running in the by-election for Asan Mayor in Chungnam, scheduled for the 2nd of next month, announced their transportation pledges on the 10th.


Oh Sehyun, the preliminary candidate from the Democratic Party of Korea, stated in a press release that he would continue to expand transportation infrastructure based on his experience as the 7th popularly elected mayor.


He pledged to pursue the extension of the GTX-C line to Sinchang, the early opening of the Asan-Cheonan Expressway, the construction of the Taean-Anseong private expressway, and the establishment of a Sejong-Asan metropolitan transportation network.


Additionally, he promised to expand public parking lots in the old downtown, increase complex public garages, improve systems for personal mobility devices such as bicycles and kickboards, reform the public transportation system, and support student commutes to and from school.


Oh emphasized, "Following the 7th term, I will do my best to build a three-dimensional and convenient transportation network," adding, "I will create a city attractive to businesses through logistical convenience and cost reduction, and a city where citizens can move conveniently from anywhere."

Jeon Mankwon, the preliminary candidate from the People Power Party, also announced in a press release that he would promote customized transportation policies such as the construction of bypass roads to alleviate congestion on arterial roads, grade separation of congested sections, and improvement of intersections.


His main plans include building a bypass road for National Route 21 between Asan and Cheonan, improving the Baebang Eunsu intersection to relieve congestion, and constructing an underpass at Baebang Station intersection.


He also pledged to expand railway infrastructure. He promised to extend the GTX-C line to Asan, adding stops at Cheonan Asan Station, Onyang Oncheon Station, and Sinchang Station, and to extend the metropolitan subway, which currently operates only to Sinchang Station, to Dogo Oncheon.


In addition, he announced plans to build a new railway connecting the Janghang Line (Sinchang Station) and the Seohae Line (Inju Station), and to connect the Janghang Line with the Gyeongbu Line KTX to make Asan a national railway transfer hub.


Jeon emphasized, "By expanding advanced transportation infrastructure, I will simultaneously reduce corporate logistics costs and improve transportation convenience for citizens," adding, "I will make Asan a central city for both railways and roads."
