Chonnam National University Selected for Jeonnam Province's Public Contest as 'Eastern Immigration and Foreigner Support Center'

Utilizing Yeosu Campus Space and Infrastructure

Chonnam National University (President Lee Geunbae) announced on the 10th that it has been finally selected as the entrusted institution for the "Jeonnam Eastern Immigration and Foreigners Comprehensive Support Center Operation Project," which was publicly recruited by Jeollanam-do Province.


The Jeonnam Eastern Immigration and Foreigners Comprehensive Support Center is a project that supplements the functions of private multicultural family centers and provides comprehensive services to support foreigners from entry into Korea to settlement in the local community. It is one of Jeollanam-do Province's key projects, which include the introduction of a "regional visa system" and the attraction of an "Immigration Office."


With this selection, Chonnam National University will receive a total project budget of 1.5 billion KRW over three years. The center will carry out tasks such as ▲promotion, education, and visa conversion support for region-specialized visa projects ▲establishment and operation of a job-employment linkage platform for foreigners ▲installation and operation of an integrated support call center for foreign residents ▲various cultural projects for social integration and awareness improvement ▲Korean language education for local immigrants and foreigners ▲establishment of a comprehensive network for local immigration and foreigner-related institutions and organizations.


The center is scheduled to be located at the Yeosu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, where there is high demand from foreigners and related institutions such as the Yeosu National Industrial Complex, Yeosu Immigration Office, and Yeosu Migrant Center are concentrated nearby.


President Lee Geunbae stated, "We will actively utilize the space and infrastructure of Chonnam National University's Yeosu campus in connection with the ongoing Glocal University 30 Project and RISE Project," and added, "We will strive to upgrade the Jeonnam Eastern Immigration and Foreigners Comprehensive Support Center to an institution equipped with the nation's best infrastructure."
