Kim Seokjun, a preliminary candidate for the Busan Superintendent of Education by-election, announced his third policy package, "The Future of Korea, AI for Children, Better Busan Education," on the morning of the 10th. He unveiled his vision to make Busan the "center of AI education."

Kim stated, "During my previous term as superintendent, we established blended learning environments in every elementary, middle, and high school classroom in Busan and provided each student with a personal smart device," adding, "We are fully prepared to introduce AI into school classes."

To achieve this, his first goal is to "cultivate convergent talents based on experiential education." He announced policies such as expanding school support through experiential education facilities like the Mathematics Culture Center, operating model schools for maker education projects, expanding experiential education in future technologies such as quantum computing and robotics, and establishing children's and youth film schools as well as Deokdo Art Maru.

Kim Seokjun, Busan Superintendent Preliminary Candidate, Announces Third Policy Package... "The Future of Korea, AI-Driven Quality Busan Education" Kim Seokjun, a preliminary candidate for Busan Superintendent of Education, is visiting an AI education site to hear about the current situation.

First, he plans to increase investment in mathematics and science education, which are fundamental for nurturing convergent talents in the AI era. He aims to develop educational materials and teacher training programs so that students can enjoy learning math and science through hands-on experiences at educational facilities like the Mathematics Culture Center and Science Experience Center, thereby supporting schools.

He will also accelerate efforts to integrate the achievements of the "Maker Education Project Model Schools," which have been conducted in school creative workshops and maker education experience centers, into regular school education. Additionally, he plans to provide opportunities for students to experience emerging industries such as quantum computing and robotics, and to foster their artistic sensibilities by re-promoting the establishment of "Children and Youth Film Schools" and "Deokdo Art Maru."

Second, he announced the launch of the Busan-style AI utilization education program, "AIya Nolja!" (Let's Play with AI!). To help students effectively utilize AI, he will introduce a prompt engineering course to strengthen their "questioning power" and expand "customized AI/SW education" for students, covering everything from coding to big data. He also plans to expand "AI ethics education" to protect students from new social issues arising in the AI era, such as "deepfake crimes."

Third, with the goal of "nurturing future-oriented talents through personalized AI education," he will promote policies such as the expansion of student-led inquiry-based blended learning, the development and introduction of customized generative AI for students, the implementation of AI-assisted English and mathematics learning and career guidance programs, the establishment of the "AI Good Data Lab," and the gradual expansion of IB research schools.

Kim plans to promote the spread of "blended learning" by discovering and sharing best practices and expanding experiential teacher training.

To provide optimal learning support through the development of customized generative AI suitable for Busan students, he will strengthen collaboration not only with domestic companies but also with "global big tech companies."

He will support schools with AI-based English and mathematics learning support programs, career guidance programs, and establish a so-called "AI Good Data Lab" to handle AI-based learning support, administrative simplification, and student data analysis.

Finally, he announced plans to systematize the results of IB research schools, which operate future competency-based curricula, and to promote their gradual expansion.

After his policy announcement, Kim visited the "Marine Cluster" and "LG Discovery Lab" in Dongsam-dong, Yeongdo-gu, to check the current status of big data and AI education and exchanged opinions with AI researchers on ways to utilize AI in primary and secondary education.

He stated, "AI convergence research in the marine industry, which can be called the future growth engine for Busan students, is extremely important for Busan's future," and promised, "I will actively promote cooperation with the Marine Cluster so that students can become familiar with data and experience AI educational content from an early age."
