Absentee Voting Applications for Jeonnam By-elections
Damyang County Governor, Gwangyang District B, Goheung District B, and Damyang District D Local Council Seats
The Jeonnam Provincial Election Commission announced on the 10th that it will be accepting applications for absentee voting from the 11th to the 15th, ahead of the April 2 by-elections and re-elections.
In Jeonnam, the following elections are scheduled for April 2: the Damyang County governor by-election, the Gwangyang District B and Goheung District B local council re-elections, and the Damyang District D local council by-election.
Absentee voting is a system that allows voters who are unable to visit polling stations in person for certain reasons to vote by mail from their current location (residence).
Among voters who are registered residents in the areas holding the by-elections or re-elections, the following are eligible to apply for absentee voting: those who reside outside the relevant electoral district; those with severe physical disabilities who are unable to move; those who are hospitalized, staying in nursing homes, or confined in detention centers, prisons, or jails; military personnel or police officers who are stationed for extended periods in remote bases or on ships far from polling stations; and those living on isolated islands as specified by the National Election Commission regulations.
Applications can be submitted through the city or county office website corresponding to the applicant's registered address. It is also possible to submit the application form in person at the city or county office, town or township office, or administrative welfare center, or to send it by mail. If sent by mail, it must arrive by 6 p.m. on the 15th.
The Jeonnam Election Commission plans to strengthen preventive and enforcement activities before and after the absentee voting application period to eradicate false reports and proxy voting.
