At the meeting, the mayor of Seongnam, the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, and the National Assembly member, who have cooperated throughout the science high school selection process, expressed mutual gratitude for their efforts. They proposed granting a 40% priority selection quota for local students to Superintendent Lim Tae-hee, representing Seongnam City, which provides a significant portion of the support for the science high school, and received a positive response.

Superintendent Lim Tae-hee stated, “As Seongnam’s role in contributing to science education becomes clear through the Seongnam Science High School, we will positively consider the local allocation.”

Furthermore, Mayor Shin Sang-jin, Superintendent Lim Tae-hee, and Assembly member Kim Eun-hye reached a consensus that even if Seongnam City supports facilities and infrastructure such as dormitories during the transition of Bundang Jungang High School to a science high school, the operating expenses required for the subsequent curriculum will be cooperatively addressed through specialized education linked with the education office and companies.

In addition, they agreed to discuss plans to share facilities and equipment between Seongnam’s general high schools and the science high school, expand corporate-linked shared schools, and support personalized learning through a high school credit system between the science high school and general high schools.

Mayor Shin Sang-jin, the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, and Assembly member Kim Eun-hye plan to further specify follow-up discussions in the future.

Meanwhile, the establishment of the Seongnam Science High School not only chose to convert Bundang Jungang High School but also significantly reduced the budget compared to a new construction method by utilizing city-owned land located behind the school.

Additionally, the school site and buildings owned by the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education will be used, and excellent faculty placement and educational expenses will be funded through the education office’s budget.
