The Healing Power of Art Museums... Ongoing Wellness Programs
Works of Two Masters Representing Modern and Contemporary Korean Art
Diversifying the Use of Public Art Museum Collections as Community Assets Connecting Art and Everyday Life
Gyeonggi Yangju City (Mayor Kang Su-hyun) announced on the 10th that it will operate an "emotional wellness program" to heal modern people at the "Yangju City Jang Uk-jin Art Museum" and the "Yangju City Min Bok-jin Art Museum."
This program is designed to allow participants to reflect on their inner selves and share thoughts with others through art, using the works of Jang Uk-jin and Min Bok-jin, masters representing modern and contemporary Korean art.
First, at the Yangju City Jang Uk-jin Art Museum, the art meditation experience program "Looking Within" is held every last Wednesday of the month, along with the drawing experience program "Complete Immersion," which runs daily.
Participants are expected to have time for concentration and contemplation while interacting with the artworks.
Next, at the Yangju City Min Bok-jin Art Museum, the program "If You Listen Closely," which helps communication and relationship recovery among families, is held every third Saturday of the month, and a customized commentary program for the visually impaired, "My Private Art Museum," is provided every last Wednesday of the month.
Additionally, the two museums collaborate to offer an integrated docent program called "Following Art, Healing Docent" every last Wednesday of the month, providing participants with an opportunity to deeply appreciate art.
The "Yangju City Jang Uk-jin Art Museum" and "Min Bok-jin Art Museum," representing the city, have attracted approximately 720,000 visitors over the past 10 years, continuously drawing art lovers and citizens alike.
They are also well known as healing spots for citizens where the natural scenery and sculptures of the sculpture park located between the two museums can be enjoyed together.
Through this wellness program, the Yangju City Art Museums are expected to offer visitors a new viewing experience of "emotional healing" by connecting the artistic worlds of two leading Korean modern and contemporary artists with everyday life through the use of their collections.
Program applications are accepted in advance and can be made by phone or through the museums' websites.
Meanwhile, the "Yangju City Min Bok-jin Art Museum" is hosting a special exhibition titled "Sitting, Standing, or Lying I," which explores human sculptures from the liberation generation of the 1950s and 1960s, until June 15, and the "Jang Uk-jin Art Museum" will hold a special exhibition called "Imaginary Garden," featuring works by five artists centered on nature, from June 18 to September 7.
