People Power Party Files Complaint Against President Yoon with the Corruption Investigation Office Chief for Illegal Arrest Allegations

Complaint to Be Filed with the Supreme Prosecutors' Office on the Afternoon of the 10th

The People Power Party will file a criminal complaint against Odongun, the head of the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO), on charges including the illegal detention of President Yoon Seok-yeol.

On the 10th, members of the National Assembly's Special Committee on the National Security Investigation from the People Power Party held a press conference at the National Assembly and stated, "The fact that the complaint has reached the level of the CIO head is because we judged that this was not simply a mistake in the course of duty."

The charges include illegal detention and confinement of President Yoon Seok-yeol, perjury during the national investigation hearing, and the creation of false official documents submitted to the National Assembly. The Special Committee members plan to visit the Supreme Prosecutors' Office at 3 p.m. that day to submit the complaint.

They claimed that the illegal detention and confinement of the president by Odongun, the CIO head, were carried out in a planned manner. Joo Jin-woo, legal advisory committee member of the People Power Party, said, "They forcibly conducted an investigation by fitting in charges despite lacking jurisdiction over treason investigations, carried out illegal detention, and as a result, the unprecedented detention of a sitting president was canceled again by the judiciary. We intend to hold them strictly accountable for this."

However, this complaint is made only by ruling party members who participated in the Special Committee on the National Security Investigation, not by all members of the People Power Party. Committee member Joo explained, "It is possible for the People Power Party as a whole to file a complaint, but since perjury charges are included, the legal requirement is that members of the Special Committee on the National Security Investigation jointly file the complaint."
