The Yeungnam University Ssireum Team has once again proven itself as the strongest force in collegiate ssireum. At the Korea Ssireum Association's 2024 Awards Ceremony held on June 4 in Boeun-gun, North Chungcheong Province, the Yeungnam University team was selected as the Outstanding University Team, and Head Coach Heo Yong received the Outstanding Coach Award.
The Korea Ssireum Association annually selects and awards teams and coaches who have achieved outstanding results in each division, presenting the Outstanding Team Award and Outstanding Coach Award to the top-ranked team in each category. Following their 2022 Achievement Award, the Yeungnam University team has maintained its top position in collegiate ssireum by winning both the Outstanding Team and Outstanding Coach Awards for two consecutive years in 2023 and 2024.

Coach Heo Yong stated, "This award was made possible thanks to the dedication of the entire team, including Coach Lee Seungho, as well as the active support from the university, parents, and the alumni association. Although we are currently facing challenges such as player injuries, we will do our best to overcome these difficulties and continue our success in the 2025 season."
Founded in 1954, the Yeungnam University Ssireum Team has established itself as a traditional powerhouse by producing top athletes representing Korean ssireum, such as Hong Hyeonuk, Son Sangjoo, and Lim Yongjae. In addition, the team continues its legacy as a prestigious ssireum team by nurturing over 200 talents across various fields, including education?most recently producing a successful candidate in the 2025 Secondary Teacher Certification Exam (Department of Physical Education graduate Kim Sanghyeon).
