Seoul City has begun the quality improvement project for aging public rental housing, and Hongje Yuwon Hana Apartment, selected as a pilot complex, has started re-occupancy.

On the 10th, Seoul City announced that the existing residents of Hongje Yuwon Hana Apartment would begin moving back in from that day. On the first day of occupancy, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon is scheduled to visit the pilot complex to review the improvements made to the aging public rental housing.

Hongje Yuwon Hana Apartment, completed in 1994, was selected as a target complex for the aging public rental housing quality improvement project in 2022. The city is carrying out a project to improve facilities and spaces in housing where residents experience inconvenience due to outdated facilities but where reconstruction is not yet due.

The city fully renovated one redevelopment rental housing building and 150 households within the complex, including private spaces and common facilities.

First, high-quality materials were used to enhance finishing quality as part of efforts to break the negative perception of rental housing. To improve insulation functionality, insulated entrance doors and high-quality windows were installed inside, and tall shoe cabinets were placed at the entrance. System shelves and electric clothes drying racks were installed on balconies to secure storage space. Built-in washing machines were installed to increase resident convenience, and water-saving faucets and toilets were installed to achieve energy-saving effects.

The color scheme inside and outside the complex was changed to create a warm atmosphere. Each household’s interior was finished with white and light gray silk wallpaper and flooring, and the entire exterior wall of the building was repainted in the same color as the sale buildings. The previously monochrome interior stairs and corridors of the apartment were also painted in fresh colors. LED lighting was installed at the main entrance and inside the parking lot to secure energy-saving effects and visibility.

Mobility convenience for the elderly and children was also improved. The slope of the building entrance stairs was lowered, and anti-slip treatment was applied to corridor stairs. Additionally, community spaces such as playgrounds and senior centers were improved to activate community activities.

To ensure resident safety, entrance doors were replaced. The existing analog entrance doors were replaced with digital door locks, and high-definition CCTV cameras were expanded outside.

A Seoul City official stated, "After the completion of re-occupancy, a satisfaction survey will be conducted with residents to further supplement the quality improvement project in the future."
