The Dongjak Bokji Car is a free shuttle bus introduced by Dongjak-gu to alleviate inconveniences for transportation-vulnerable residents within the district (such as seniors aged 65 and over, people with disabilities, pregnant women, infants, and their guardians) living in public transportation blind spots.
On weekdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. (excluding lunch time from 12 to 1 p.m.), a total of eight buses operate with two buses per route: Route 1 covers Sangdo 2 and 4-dong, Route 2 covers Sadang 2 and 3-dong, Route 3 covers Sadang 4 and 5-dong, and Route 4 covers Noryangjin 1-dong and Heukseok-dong. The routes pass through welfare centers, public health centers, community service centers, and cultural and sports facilities.
According to the district, various resident suggestions raised since the implementation of the Dongjak Bokji Car were actively reflected in this improvement. On Route 2, a new stop named ‘Liga Apartment’ was added between ‘Samil Elementary School’ and ‘Samik Senior Citizens’ Center,’ and on Route 4, a new stop named ‘Noryangjin 1-dong Community Service Center’ was established between ‘Dongjak Police Station’ and ‘Nodeul Station Exit 5’ to enhance user convenience.
Signboards were also reorganized considering the relocation of the public health center. For Route 1, the starting stop ‘In front of Sangdo 2-dong Community Service Center’ was changed to ‘In front of Dongjak-gu Health Management Office (Dongjak-gu Public Health Center),’ and ‘Dongjak Family Culture Center’ was added alongside ‘Sangdo Silver Senior Welfare Center.’ For Route 4, ‘Noryangjin 1-dong Community Service Center On-site Civil Service Office’ was updated to ‘Nodeul Station Exit 3.’
Additionally, Routes 1 and 4 now allow boarding with carry-on items such as shopping basket carriers, and two new vehicles on Routes 1 and 3 have been equipped with announcement systems. The district plans to conduct a full inspection of all route signboards by early next month to adjust their locations and install a cheering message broadcasting system on the stop bells. Meanwhile, the average daily number of users of the Dongjak Bokji Car last year increased by more than 178% compared to the previous year, showing expansion.
Mayor Park Ilha said, “We will continue to create a better Dongjak-gu through two-way communication administration that meets residents’ expectations and innovative practical administration.”
