National Heritage Agency Strengthens Capacity of Subsurface Heritage Survey Personnel

Specialized Training in Buried Cultural Heritage Investigation
to Be Conducted Until November

The Cultural Heritage Administration and the Korea Cultural Heritage Association announced on the 10th that they will conduct "Specialized Training in Buried Cultural Heritage Investigation" until November. This capacity-building program is designed for personnel involved in buried cultural heritage investigations working at excavation agencies, museums, research institutes, related university (graduate) students, and officials from local governments and public institutions. The program is divided into four areas: basic, specialized, safety, and general knowledge, offering fourteen courses. These include "Understanding Korean Archaeology," "Understanding Site Formation and Environment," "Scientific Analysis Methods for Archaeological Interpretation," and "Practical Safety Management Tailored to Excavation Sites."

An official from the Cultural Heritage Administration explained, "In line with the enforcement of the 'National Heritage Impact Assessment Act' last month, we established a new course on 'Understanding the National Heritage Impact Assessment Act' and strengthened practical safety education to prevent accidents among buried cultural heritage investigation personnel and on-site workers." They added, "Participants will also learn the latest techniques applicable in the field, such as drone photography and the use of ChatGPT, providing a comprehensive opportunity to cultivate the specialized knowledge and practical skills necessary for their duties."
