Handonghun, Lee Jaemyung on 'Moderate Conservative Theory': "They Throw What’s Advantageous to Themselves... Let's Debate"

"Lee Jaemyung Is the Most Dangerous Person Who Could Put South Korea at Risk"

Former People Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon criticized Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, for his 'centrist conservative' remarks, saying, "Leader Lee throws out various things that are advantageous to himself."

On the 10th, Han said on CBS Radio's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show,' "The public is skeptical about the feasibility of implementation." He added, "I am no longer going to say that Leader Lee is a bad person because he committed such and such crimes," and "Looking at history, bad people have sometimes done good politics, and the public views things from the perspective of current politics anyway." He continued, "If he wants to be a centrist conservative, he should debate on certain issues," adding, "I have always requested many debates, but when I suggest debating, they do not accept."

He also said, "Leader Lee is the most dangerous person who could truly put South Korea at risk," and added, "There is growing anxiety about the world he will create and a patriotic spirit to prevent it, as well as a love for the community."

Regarding President Yoon Seok-youl’s release following the court’s decision to cancel his detention, Han said, "If the court judged that there was a procedural problem, it is natural to decide to cancel the detention." He added, "The Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) should be abolished," explaining, "The CIO was created out of the Democratic Party’s forced attempt to shake the judicial system for quantitative gain, and it was passed in a rushed manner. The system itself is too loose and full of holes."

Furthermore, he said, "I feel deeply distressed about the president’s illegal martial law and how the situation escalated." Reflecting on the martial law period, Han recalled, "My biggest worry was the possibility of a bloody incident the next morning," and said, "Many people would take to the streets, and young soldiers would be innocent. That worry overwhelmed me." He continued, "We have built an economy, but if martial law was not lifted that day, the stock market would not open, and I was very concerned about how other countries would view this. Many thoughts crossed my mind, but in the end, it had to be stopped somehow."

Han said, "I have been deeply involved in politics for over two years. As Minister of Justice, I fought the Democratic Party 1 to 180 and implemented various policies during that process. I led the general election as the emergency committee chairman, faced many oppositions, but was overwhelmingly elected as party leader," and asked rhetorically, "How many politicians have experienced martial law and stopped it?" He added, "When criticizing prosecutor politics, the two worst things mentioned are strict hierarchy and favoritism. I am the opposite, aren’t I?" and said, "If I had practiced favoritism as party leader, I wouldn’t be where I am now."
