Six out of ten moviegoers who visited theaters over the weekend chose director Bong Joon-ho's film Mickey 17.
According to the Korea Film Council's integrated box office data on the 10th, Mickey 17 attracted 562,221 viewers over the past weekend (7th-9th), securing the number one spot at the box office. Its revenue share was 65.8%, and since its release on the 28th of last month, the cumulative audience has reached 2,098,586.
Mickey 17 tells the story of the 17th disposable human clone "Mickey," sent to colonize an ice planet, who was thought to have died but then the 18th Mickey is generated, leading to unfolding events. Director Bong collaborated with Warner Bros. on the production, with a total budget of $118 million (approximately 170 billion KRW).
During the same period, the animation Exorcism Record (director Kim Dong-cheol), adapted from the novel of the same name, attracted 59,131 viewers and ranked second. The foreign film Conclave (director Edward Berger) recorded 51,266 viewers, placing third.
Other films following were Playve Dash in Cinema (32,702 viewers), Captain America: Brave New World (32,333 viewers), and It's Okay, It's Okay, It's Okay! (22,607 viewers).
Meanwhile, the total number of moviegoers who visited theaters last weekend was counted at 882,829.
