Kukmin Ilbo Reports... Justice Jeong Hyeongsik's Son Recently Married
"Deliberations Held on Whether to Skip the Wedding Due to Intense Public Attention"
Ruling on President Yoon's Impeachment Expected from the Constitutional Court This Week
With the possibility high that the ruling on President Yoon Seok-yeol's impeachment trial could be announced as early as this week, it has been reported that Justice Jeong Hyeong-sik of the Constitutional Court even considered not attending his son's wedding. On the 9th, Kukmin Ilbo reported, "Justice Jeong's eldest son held his wedding the day before at a location in Seoul," adding, "Justice Jeong, who is the presiding justice for President Yoon's impeachment trial, reportedly contemplated not attending his son's wedding due to the intense public attention focused on the Constitutional Court."

The wedding date for Justice Jeong's son was set before the declaration of emergency martial law on December 3rd, and other justices were aware of the schedule. However, considering that the Constitutional Court is currently handling major cases simultaneously, including the impeachment trial of President Yoon and Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, it was reportedly mentioned during the justices' deliberations whether Justice Jeong should refrain from attending the wedding. Justice Jeong was said to have pondered whether he should postpone the wedding.
Nevertheless, after much deliberation, Justice Jeong attended the wedding as the host, and other justices also visited the venue as guests. However, Justice Jeong did not inform other members of the Constitutional Court, such as research judges, about the wedding schedule separately, and reportedly took care to prevent the news from spreading to external parties, including the political sphere, to avoid misunderstandings.
Following the conclusion of the impeachment trial arguments for President Yoon on the 25th of last month, the Constitutional Court justices have been holding private deliberations almost daily. To prevent leaks of the deliberation content, the Constitutional Court is known to have installed surveillance and wiretapping equipment in the justices' meeting room, paying special attention to security.
Previously, in the cases of former Presidents Roh Moo-hyun and Park Geun-hye, the ruling dates were set 14 days and 11 days, respectively, after the final arguments. Accordingly, there is speculation that the Constitutional Court will soon announce the ruling date.
