Ministry of Culture Appoints 7 Members to APEC High-Level Cultural Dialogue Steering Committee

On the afternoon of the 10th, Yoon In-chon, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, appointed seven members of the 'Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Cultural Senior Officials Dialogue Promotion Committee' and presented them with appointment certificates at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the same day.


The Cultural Senior Officials Dialogue is scheduled to be held on August 26-27 in Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk, where the APEC Summit will take place at the end of October. It is the first occasion within APEC where culture ministers and officials gather to discuss cultural agendas.

The APEC Cultural Senior Officials Dialogue Promotion Committee will play various roles such as advising on agendas and programs and recommending key participants to ensure the successful holding of the Cultural Senior Officials Dialogue.


The appointed members of the recommendation committee include five external members (in alphabetical order): Son Ji-ae, Visiting Professor at the Graduate School of International Studies, Ewha Womans University; Ahn Ho-young, Visiting Chair Professor at the Institute of Far Eastern Studies, Gyeongnam National University; Lee Jae-young, Specially Appointed Professor at Kookmin University; Cha In-hyuk, Adjunct Professor at Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST); and Choi Kyung-gyu, Professor of Business Administration at Dongguk University; as well as two internal members: Lee Jung-woo, Director of Cultural Arts Policy at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and Kim Hyun-jun, Director of International Cultural Policy (Acting Director of International Cultural Promotion Policy Office), making a total of seven members.


Minister Yoon In-chon stated, "We are actively supporting the APEC Summit to be held this year to become a successful 'Cultural APEC' that can showcase the cultural and historical symbolism of Gyeongju and the essence of K-Culture to the world." He added, "Since the Cultural Senior Officials Dialogue, where culture ministers discuss regional cooperation measures, is newly established for the first time in APEC, we will prepare together with the Promotion Committee to ensure the successful hosting of the event."
