Sacheon City and Changwon University Open Sacheon Aerospace Campus

Full-scale Nurturing of Future Aerospace Talent Begins
Fostering Key Personnel for the New Era of Space Exploration

The Gyeongnam Sacheon Aerospace Campus of the National Changwon University announced on the 10th that it has officially begun nurturing talent by holding a plaque unveiling ceremony and an entrance ceremony at the Sacheon Industrial Complex Multipurpose Cultural Center.

The event was attended by National Assembly member Seo Cheonho, Aerospace Administration Commissioner Yoon Youngbin, officials from Sacheon City and Changwon University, as well as heads of institutions, organizations, and figures from the aerospace industry, all gathered to celebrate the opening of the campus.

The Changwon University Sacheon Aerospace Campus was established in Sacheon, the aerospace capital of Korea, to foster specialized talent that will lead the future aerospace industry.

Changwon University plans to actively utilize the Sacheon Aerospace Campus as an advanced field training hub, providing students from related departments with opportunities for industry tours, internships, and fostering aerospace ventures.

In particular, due to limited classroom space, this year’s Sacheon Campus will start with 15 students, but there are plans to rapidly push forward with the construction of an industry-academia-research aerospace campus in Tongyang-ri, Yonghyeon-myeon, with a capacity of 210 students.

Accordingly, the Sacheon Aerospace Campus is expected to establish itself as a core educational institution for Korea’s aerospace industry, serving as an important turning point for revitalizing the local economy and strengthening the competitiveness of the aerospace sector.

Furthermore, it is expected to serve as an opportunity to strengthen ties with the Aerospace Administration, which was established in Sacheon last May, and to expand collaboration with local aerospace companies.

Meanwhile, Sacheon City has drawn attention as the ideal location for nurturing customized talent, with the Aerospace Administration, the nation’s only aircraft system integrator KAI, the government-designated sole aircraft MRO operator KAEMS, numerous aerospace companies, and the Gyeongnam Technopark Aerospace Headquarters all located in the area.

President Park Minwon stated, “The Sacheon Aerospace Campus will become a cradle for nurturing key talent to usher in a new era of space exploration,” adding, “We will strengthen industry-academia-research cooperation and produce globally competitive talent through practical, hands-on education.”

Mayor Park Dongsik said, “The establishment, approval, and opening of the Changwon University Sacheon Aerospace Campus all within a year is unprecedented, made possible by President Park Minwon’s drive and strong support from National Assembly member Seo Cheonho. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to resolving this 30-year aspiration.”

He added, “A university is a place to challenge dreams and the future. Sacheon City will also support students aspiring to become aerospace experts through various support policies.”
