Initiation of Redevelopment Plan for Sewoon 6-1-1 District
Including Commercial Area Park Development and Expansion of Green Spaces
Seoul City will directly establish and support a redevelopment plan to foster the Sewoon District.
On the 10th, Seoul City announced that starting next month, it will commence a redevelopment plan establishment project for Sewoon 6-1-1 District (around 291-45, Euljiro 3-ga, Jung-gu), located on the north side of Myeongbo Art Hall.
Seoul City plans to concentrate public resources to revitalize the deteriorated downtown area and promote a competitive urban resurgence through the swift advancement of redevelopment projects. The project is scheduled to be completed by the first half of next year.
Previously, in June last year, the city announced the 'Sewoon Redevelopment Promotion Plan,' which includes a plan to create a large-scale green space and a green ecological zone integrating office and residential buildings with cultural and commercial facilities across approximately 430,000㎡ of land.
This redevelopment plan will include measures to expand green spaces by planning commercial area parks and linking them with open green spaces in adjacent districts, as well as ways to realize green spaces that can be enjoyed throughout all four seasons to enhance attractive urban infrastructure.
To encourage private redevelopment activation, the plan will incorporate creative and innovative designs and include pre-arranged building placements for efficient land use.
By directly establishing the redevelopment plan, the city expects to enable specific development plans reflecting policy directions, shortening the process by more than one year compared to the existing resident proposal method.
To alleviate concerns about project delays and ensure rational and swift project progress, a public-private consultative body involving landowners, experts, and public officials will be formed from the redevelopment plan establishment stage to provide active support.
Jo Nam-jun, Director of Seoul City Urban Space Headquarters, stated, "For Sewoon District to leap forward as a new global hub, it is crucial to expand attractive urban infrastructure and activate private redevelopment. Through this project, we will secure the initial momentum for redevelopment and actively support swift project advancement."
