The Era of Gwangjin-gu New Office Begins... District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho Moves In First Perspective View of Gwangjin-gu New Office Building

Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) has closed the era of the Republican Party training center from over 70 years ago and is now entering a new era with a new government office building in the Guui Station area.

Kim Kyung-ho, the mayor of Gwangjin-gu, became the first occupant of the new building.

The original Gwangjin-gu Office building was constructed in 1967 as the Republican Party training center. In 1976, it opened as the Seongdong-gu Office, and in 1995, when Gwangjin-gu and Seongdong-gu were separated, it became the Gwangjin-gu Office. After 60 years, the building had become cramped and inconvenient for both residents and staff, as the office space was limited and spread across five buildings. In particular, the narrow parking lot in front of the office could only accommodate 66 cars, causing significant inconvenience to residents. The new office building, however, provides parking space for 152 cars, raising great expectations. A senior official at the district office expressed joy, saying, "The old Gwangjin-gu Office was cramped and outdated, causing many inconveniences, but moving to the new building will make work much more convenient."

The new Gwangjin-gu Office was made possible through the redevelopment project of the Jayang 1 Redevelopment Promotion Zone. As this project progresses as planned, the area is gradually transforming into a large-scale advanced complex business city, with move-in just around two months away. The Jayang 1 Redevelopment Promotion Zone project was completed on January 23 of this year. The zone covers the area of the former Dongbu District Court and KT site at 680-63 Jayang-dong, with a site area of 78,119 square meters. The complex includes the Gwangjin-gu Office integrated building (18 floors), an advanced business district (31 floors), a hotel officetel (34 floors), and seven residential apartment buildings with 1,363 households (26 to 48 floors), creating a mixed-use complex combining administration, residential, business, cultural, and commercial facilities.

The new Gwangjin-gu Office building has 7 basement floors and 48 above-ground floors, with a total floor area of 506,000 square meters. It was completed eight years after the complex office building plan was decided in 2017.

The district has formed a task force team for the office relocation several years ago and is now accelerating preparations for the move scheduled for mid to late April.

Mayor Kim Kyung-ho said, "This year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Gwangjin-gu, and moving to the new office building in April will usher in a new era for Gwangjin-gu. Based on the solid development foundation laid over the past three years of the 8th elected term, we will strive even harder to bring about visible changes."

The site where the Gwangjin-gu Office is located is a key area of the '2040 Gwangjin Re-Creation Plan,' connecting Konkuk University Station, Guui Station, and Gangbyeon Station as part of the 'Advanced Industry Axis.' The daily users of Guui Station have more than doubled, and it is expected to become the center of regional development.

Accordingly, residents have high expectations for the new integrated Gwangjin-gu Office building. The new building has 18 floors and prioritizes resident convenience. The first-floor lobby includes a book caf? staffed by people with disabilities, a kids' zone, and exhibition spaces. The second floor houses an integrated civil service center, bringing together frequently visited departments such as passport, transportation, taxation, land registry, and housing to enhance convenience. Office spaces are efficiently organized, and rest areas are appropriately placed throughout to improve work efficiency. Additionally, part of the sales area on the second basement floor will be transformed into a 4th industrial revolution experience space linked to advanced IT technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and metaverse, aimed at securing new growth engines and nurturing future talent.

Accessibility and convenience are also addressed. A connecting passageway will be installed linking Exit 3 of Guui Station on Subway Line 2 to the building for easy access. The plaza will include green spaces such as cultural parks and small parks, providing residents with a place to relax.

Mayor Kim Kyung-ho said, "The Jayang 1 Redevelopment Promotion Zone project is a good exemplary case created through communication among the public sector, private sector, and local residents. The Guui Station area will be reborn as a northeastern hub with a complex district combining administration, residential, business, culture, and commerce. We will continue to do our best to create a happy Gwangjin that develops through communication with residents."
