Musk Says He Will Not Use Starlink as a Bargaining Chip
EU Seeks Ways to Reduce Ukraine's Reliance on Starlink
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, stated that he will never block the Starlink satellite internet network provided to Ukraine. This directly dismisses concerns both inside and outside that the next step of the Donald Trump administration, which halted military aid to Ukraine, could be to 'block Starlink.'
On the 9th (local time), Musk posted on X (formerly Twitter), "No matter how much I disagree with Ukraine's policies, I will not block Starlink."
He emphasized, "I will never do such a thing or use it as a bargaining chip." This post was made to refute another X user's claim that Musk was threatening Ukraine by leveraging Starlink.
Earlier, he criticized the stalemate on the Russia-Ukraine front, claiming, "If I turn off Starlink, the entire Ukrainian front will collapse."
Regarding this post, Musk clarified, "I was simply saying that without Starlink, Ukrainians' communications would have collapsed because Russians could destroy all other communications," explaining that it did not mean he would block Starlink.
Meanwhile, European Union (EU) leaders recently held an emergency summit in Brussels to significantly increase defense spending and seek alternatives to Starlink. Bloomberg reported that "it may not be easy for Ukraine to cut its dependence on Starlink, as it requires time and money."
