Mayor Jeon Seong-su visited Bangbae 2-dong and Bangbae Bon-dong on the 4th and 7th, respectively, to inspect retaining walls, steep slopes, major construction sites, road slopes, and steep areas. This inspection was conducted together with residents, focusing on preemptively identifying and preventing real-life risk factors with those who know the local conditions best.
In addition, thorough inspections were carried out on facilities such as building exteriors with a high risk of major accidents, as well as ground weakening and structural collapses that may occur during the thawing period, to prevent accidents.
More than 100 people participated in each inspection, including Mayor Jeon Seong-su, the Safety Culture Movement Practice Council, the Autonomous Disaster Prevention Group, Safety Guards, the Public-Private Emergency Recovery Team, and safety experts. Furthermore, National Assembly members Jo Eun-hee and Shin Dong-wook, city and district council members, and related organizations actively joined in to create a safer Seocho.
The ‘Thaw Season Safety Inspection with Residents’ will be conducted over 18 neighborhoods throughout March, focusing on major construction sites and safety-vulnerable areas in each neighborhood. Any risks identified in advance will be promptly addressed.
Meanwhile, Seocho-gu is making every effort in safety management by utilizing various cutting-edge technologies. Since February last year, 278 Internet of Things (IoT) digital sensors have been installed and operated at 75 aging and hazardous facilities such as bridges, overpasses, and underground road retaining walls to automatically detect abnormal signs such as tilt, cracks, and temperature in real time.

Mayor Jeon Seong-su said, “This safety inspection is being conducted to protect residents from accidents that may occur as frozen areas thaw during winter. Even very small cracks and holes can cause major accidents, so we will thoroughly inspect every corner of the neighborhood together with residents who know the local conditions well and make every effort to ensure residents’ safety.”
