Uijeongbu City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Dong-geun) is stepping up final preparations as the ‘2025 LGT World Women's Curling Championship,’ scheduled to be held from the 15th to the 23rd, is just one week away.

According to Uijeongbu City on the 8th, Mayor Kim Dong-geun personally inspected the main venues of the event on the 7th to check the preparation status for a successful hosting. This championship, organized by the World Curling Federation (WCF), is a large-scale international sports event and the first world championship held in Uijeongbu, featuring top-level women's curling teams from around the world. It is regarded as an important opportunity for Uijeongbu to establish itself as a center for ice sports.


On that day, Mayor Kim visited the Uijeongbu Indoor Ice Rink to check key elements of the competition such as ice quality, refrigeration facilities, and dehumidifiers. He instructed officials to ensure that athletes can compete in optimal conditions. He also inspected auxiliary facilities including the players' waiting rooms, referees' rooms, and media center, urging thorough preparation to ensure smooth operation of all facilities within the venue.


Additionally, Mayor Kim reviewed safety management measures and emergency medical systems in anticipation of a large number of spectators during the event. He particularly emphasized the thorough execution of fire safety inspections scheduled from the 10th to the 12th, personally checking fire safety equipment and evacuation routes. At this occasion, Mayor Kim stated, “Safety is the most crucial factor determining the success of the event,” and instructed, “Prepare thoroughly so that all visitors can enjoy the games with peace of mind.”


He also focused on traffic measures to improve accessibility to the venue. Mayor Kim confirmed plans to deploy guides at major intersections during the event and operate shuttle buses for public transportation users. He carefully checked the routes from parking lots for private vehicle users to the venue, urging, “Provide friendly guidance and meticulous traffic flow management so that spectators can move without inconvenience.”

Preparations for the opening ceremony, the highlight of the championship, have also intensified. With the attendance of key figures including the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism expected, the event flow and stage setup were thoroughly inspected.


Mayor Kim emphasized, “This championship is not just a sports event but an important stage to showcase the status of the Republic of Korea and Uijeongbu City to the world. We must prepare perfectly without a single mistake.”


After the on-site inspection, Mayor Kim highlighted that this championship is an opportunity to propel Uijeongbu City as an international hub for ice sports. He forecasted, “The 2025 LGT World Women's Curling Championship will be a milestone for Uijeongbu to establish itself as a world-class sports city. With around 20,000 spectators expected to visit, it will also have a positive ripple effect on the local economy.”


Uijeongbu citizens are also raising their expectations for the championship. One citizen said, “I am proud that Uijeongbu has attracted a world-class curling championship. I hope many citizens will support and participate.”

In response, Mayor Kim Dong-geun said, “The cooperation and support of Uijeongbu citizens are key factors for the success of the championship,” adding, “This event will be a festival enjoyed by both citizens and people from around the world. Together with the citizens, we will make Uijeongbu a global center for ice sports.”


The ‘2025 LGT World Women's Curling Championship’ is a crucial event where qualification for the ‘2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics’ is at stake. A total of 13 countries ranked from 1st to 13th in the world will participate to compete their skills. Through this championship, Uijeongbu City is expected to solidify its position as a global sports city.
