Park Chan-dae "Yoon's Cancellation of Detention Decision Very Unusual... Prosecution Will Pay the Price if They Release"

Park Chan-dae, the floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, called the court's decision to cancel the detention of President Yoon Seok-yeol "highly unusual" and urged the prosecution to immediately file an appeal.

At a party meeting held at the National Assembly on the morning of the 8th, Floor Leader Park said, "The entire nation clearly saw the charges of treason against Yoon Seok-yeol. That is why the prosecution confidently indicted him," expressing his view.

He added, "The court's decision to cancel the detention is a highly unusual ruling that contradicts previous precedents regarding the interpretation of detention periods by courts and the prosecution," and said, "If the prosecution believes the court's application of the law is incorrect, it has a duty to correct it immediately."

Floor Leader Park stated, "There has never been a constitutional ruling against the immediate appeal system. It is a clearly valid law," and added, "If the prosecution hesitates due to concerns about unconstitutionality, that is merely an excuse to release Yoon Seok-yeol."

He also claimed, "When the court denied the extension of the detention period, Prosecutor General Shim Woo-jung should have immediately indicted, but instead wasted valuable time under the pretext of consulting with the chiefs of prosecution," and said, "Looking back, it is hard not to suspect that Prosecutor General Shim was already attempting to release Yoon Seok-yeol at that time." He urged, "Prosecutor General Shim must not obstruct the investigation and prosecution maintenance of the Special Investigation Headquarters with illegal or improper orders," and called on the Special Investigation Headquarters to "promptly file an immediate appeal."

Floor Leader Park warned, "If the prosecution releases Yoon Seok-yeol, the leader of the treason, it would be an act of betraying the people and showing loyalty to the treason leader," and said, "The prosecution will lose all the public trust it had gained through the treason investigation and will pay a severe price."
