According to Gimpo City on the 7th, the city held a Sports Promotion Council meeting on the 6th in the city hall's medium conference room to discuss the establishment and development plans of the city's sports promotion policies.
At the meeting, citizens expressed their continued desire to attract an international skating rink and voiced opinions that activities to attract the international skating rink should be resumed amid the changed situation of the sports council.
Ten council members, composed of sports experts from various fields including recreational, professional, school, and disabled sports, attended the meeting to receive a report on the achievements of the 2024 sports policy implementation and to review the 2025 citizen sports activation promotion plan.
The council deeply discussed major issues such as strengthening support measures for recreational and professional sports, plans to introduce and activate ice sports programs, directions for operating workplace sports teams, opening school sports facilities, and introducing smart technology in sports spaces.
Council members argued that since other local governments have resumed activities, our city should also pursue attracting an international skating rink, engaging in heated discussions with city officials.
In response, Gimpo City decided to continue the campaign to attract the international skating rink, leveraging excellent transportation conditions such as roads, railways, and access to international airports, in line with citizens' aspirations. The city announced that it will introduce and operate ice sports experience programs to foster interest in ice sports and nurture talent in the region through the ice sports project budget secured by being selected in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's public contest earlier this year.
Meanwhile, last year, Gimpo City expanded opportunities for citizen sports activities by strengthening support for recreational sports classes and sports voucher programs, and promoted the construction of numerous public sports facilities such as Gimpo Bandabi Sports Center and Solteo Sports Park Park Golf Course. Additionally, the city has enhanced its brand value through systematic operation and excellent achievements of Gimpo FC and workplace sports teams.
In particular, Gimpo City has been making every effort to attract the construction of an ice rink through citizen resolution rallies related to the international skating rink, relay signature campaigns and campaigns, and business agreements with related organizations and groups.
