Paradigm Shift in the Food Industry... Regular General Meeting of the Bio Future Food Industry Council Held

Jildu Jeong, CEO of SIMPLE planet, as the inaugural chairman of the Bio Future Food Industry Council, hosted the 'Bio Future Food Industry Council 2025 Annual General Meeting and Industry Seminar' organized by the Korea Bio Association. At this event, CEO Jeong presented a vision for collaboration to develop sustainable future food solutions and to strengthen global competitiveness.

This annual general meeting, the first event where member companies gathered to discuss this year's budget and plans, was held on the 6th at EL Tower in Seoul. The Bio Future Food Industry Council was established last year with the goal of contributing to the development of the bio future food industry by discussing the creation of a bio future food value chain ecosystem, including cultured meat, and revitalizing the industry.

On this day, Jildu Jeong, CEO of SIMPLE planet and inaugural chairman of the Bio Future Food Industry Council, stated, "The bio future food industry is a key sector for sustainable food supply, rapidly growing through technological innovation and global cooperation," adding, "The council plans to collaborate with member companies across various fields such as research and development, regulation, and market expansion, aiming to build an ecosystem for the entire industry."

He continued, "We will continue to represent the industry's voice and do our best to support domestic companies in gaining competitiveness on the global stage."

CEO Jeong is a chemical and biological engineering expert who completed his doctoral course at Seoul National University and a research internship at Harvard Medical School, and previously worked as a senior researcher in the research planning team at Anguk Pharmaceutical. Additionally, from his undergraduate years in the U.S., he has accumulated know-how in business operations through founding and selling multiple startups. Based on this experience, in 2021, he founded SIMPLE planet, a bio food tech company developing future food ingredients and functional bio new materials based on cell culture technology.

SIMPLE planet is currently focusing on accelerating the commercialization of cultured meat and securing competitiveness in the global food market based on differentiated cell culture technology. They have developed a serum-free cell culture medium that reduces production costs by over 99.8% compared to commercial media, and signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Halal Science Center (HSC) at Chulalongkorn University in Thailand for halal certification and global commercialization of cell-cultured foods.

Cultured meat is gaining attention domestically and internationally as a solution to environmental issues such as food shortages caused by climate change and greenhouse gas emissions. Countries like the United States, Singapore, and Israel have approved cultured meat, and domestically, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety is establishing regulatory frameworks for cultured meat, actively building the foundation necessary for the industry's development.

Amid this trend, the recent annual general meeting and seminar demonstrate active cooperation and market formation among domestic cell-cultured food and food tech companies. In particular, SIMPLE planet’s role as the inaugural chairman of the council indicates its significant position in the industry and its active contribution to revitalizing the domestic cultured meat industry.

Meanwhile, the council includes a total of 33 member companies, comprising 23 cultured meat-related companies such as SIMPLE planet, Seaweed, and BioApp, as well as five major food corporations including Daesang and CJ CheilJedang.
