Police to Request Arrest Warrant

A male elementary school teacher in his 40s, Myung, who is accused of murdering 8-year-old Kim Haneul at an elementary school in Daejeon, confessed to the crime during a police face-to-face investigation.

According to the Daejeon Western Police Station on the 7th, the dedicated investigation team executed an arrest warrant for suspect Myung in the morning and began the face-to-face investigation. This is the first face-to-face investigation with Mr. A since the incident occurred 25 days ago and 24 days after the arrest warrant was issued.

The police stated that suspect Myung calmly responded during the first face-to-face investigation and admitted to the crime. The police plan to apply for an arrest warrant as early as today once the investigation is completed. If the arrest warrant is issued, a personal information disclosure review committee will be held to decide whether to disclose his personal information.

Until now, the police had postponed the face-to-face investigation due to Myung’s health issues. Immediately after the crime, Myung self-inflicted wounds to his neck and underwent venous suturing surgery and hospital treatment. Although the police attempted to conduct the face-to-face investigation after the surgery, the investigation was halted based on medical staff’s opinion that additional stabilization was necessary due to elevated blood pressure and other reasons.

Since Myung’s condition improved from the previous day, the police, in consultation with medical staff, began the face-to-face investigation today. The police have completed the analysis of evidence secured through search and seizure and witness investigations, leaving only the detailed fact verification through the face-to-face investigation. Profilers also plan to complete the analysis of the motive and criminal behavior through intensive investigation.

Meanwhile, Myung is accused of stabbing and killing Kim at an elementary school in Seo-gu, Daejeon, on the 10th of last month.
