NH Nonghyup Bank has thrown its hat into the ring for the competition to obtain the new license for the 4th internet-only bank.


According to the financial sector on the 7th, NH Nonghyup Bank's board of directors held an extraordinary meeting in the afternoon to discuss joining the Korea Soho Bank consortium to enter the internet banking business.


NH Nonghyup Bank is known to have participated in the competition for the new license of the 4th internet-only bank as part of its "Digital Leading Bank" strategy. Kang Tae-young, president of NH Nonghyup Bank, has emphasized the vision of becoming a "Digital Leading Bank" since the beginning of his term.


Company officials explained that NH Nonghyup Bank's move to explore entry into the internet banking business, following the strategic business agreement signed with Naver Pay on the 25th of last month, is in line with this strategy.


The consortiums currently participating in the competition for the 4th internet-only bank license include Soho Bank, Duzon Bank, U Bank, and Soso Bank. Among them, Soho Bank is a consortium centered around Korea Credit Data (KCD).


KB Kookmin Bank holds shares in existing internet banks such as Kakao Bank, Hana Bank in Toss Bank, and Woori Bank in K Bank, while Shinhan Bank is positively reviewing participation in the Duzon Bank consortium.
