Jeollanam-do conducted job training for the Yeosun Incident Fact-Finding Team for the first half of 2025 over two days until the 7th, aiming to complete 100% of on-site fact-finding for the Yeosun Incident by August and to strengthen the capabilities of its investigators.

A total of 74 people attended the training, including officials in charge from Jeollanam-do and 22 cities and counties, as well as fact-finding investigators.

With the amendment of the Enforcement Decree of the Yeosun Incident Special Act, the training focused on enhancing job competency in preparation for the third round of additional reports and registrations of Yeosun Incident victims and bereaved families, which will begin on the 18th. The program included both theoretical and on-site field training.

In addition, with commentary by an expert from the Yeosu Community Research Institute, participants visited major historical sites related to the Yeosun Incident, such as the Suncheon Yeosun Uprising Tower, Jangdae Bridge, Yeosu 14th Regiment Garrison and Memorial Monument, Gwangyang Memorial Tower and former Gwangyang Town Office, and the Sandong-myeon area in Gurye, to promote a correct understanding of the Yeosun Incident's history.

Kim Chajin, head of the Jeollanam-do Yeosun Incident Support Team, said, "I hope this job training will greatly help the officials and investigators on the front lines to carry out their assigned duties quickly and accurately without any gaps," adding, "We will work together with the cities and counties to ensure that 100% of the on-site fact-finding for the 7,465 reported cases is completed by August."

Of the 7,465 victim and bereaved family reports received, the cities and counties completed fact-finding for 6,537 cases (87.6%) as of February this year. Jeollanam-do reviewed and processed 5,073 cases (68%), and the Yeosun Incident Central Committee made final decisions on 2,303 cases (30.9%).
