President Yoon's Cancellation of Arrest a Wise Decision... Affirmation of Judicial Justice

The leadership of the People Power Party expressed their stance on the cancellation of President Yoon Seok-yeol's detention on the 7th, stating, "We welcome the wise decision made."

Emergency Response Committee Chairman Kwon Young-se and Floor Leader Kwon Seong-dong held an urgent press conference that day, saying, "This is an important moment confirming that the rule of law and judicial justice in the Republic of Korea are alive."

Chairman Kwon said, "Until now, the public had to endure great confusion and anxiety due to excessive investigations with political motives," adding, "I hope this decision becomes an opportunity to restore the constitutional order of the Republic of Korea and that it leads to the path of national unity."

Floor Leader Kwon also said, "I truly welcome and feel relieved that the constitutional principle of non-detention trial has been realized, albeit belatedly," and evaluated, "The court made a common-sense judgment, albeit late."

They also held the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Office (Gongsoocheo) accountable. Floor Leader Kwon pointed out, "The court concluded that the Gongsoocheo's unlawful and improper execution of the arrest and detention warrants was wrong," and added, "The Gongsoocheo chief and all related officials must take responsibility for this."

Regarding the possibility of the prosecution's appeal, he warned, "If the prosecution immediately appeals citing that this is different from past practices, it would be abandoning its mission as an institution protecting the human rights of the people."

Addressing the Constitutional Court ahead of the final ruling on the impeachment trial, Chairman Kwon called for a fair judgment. He said, "I hope they deliver a fair and just ruling based solely on constitutional values," and added, "I hope they fulfill their role as an independent constitutional guardian institution trusted by the people, beyond specific political factions or vested interests."

Meanwhile, the leadership plans to visit President Yoon soon. Chairman Kwon stated, "I intend to visit him as soon as possible," and Floor Leader Kwon also responded, "We plan to visit at an appropriate time after checking the president's health condition."
