Seodaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seong-heon) announced on the 7th that it is providing support for 'adoption fees for lost and abandoned animals' and 'costs for implanted animal registration.'

The district supports part of the expenses when lost or abandoned animals within the district are adopted for companionship purposes from the Seodaemun Naepumae (愛) Center or the Korea Animal Rescue Management Association. The eligible recipients are owners who have completed online education for prospective adopters on the ‘Animal Love Learning Center’ website, adopted a lost or abandoned animal, and completed implanted animal registration (dogs, cats). Support is provided equally even if the adopter resides in another local government area.
The covered items include disease diagnosis fees, treatment costs, vaccination fees, neutering surgery costs, implanted animal registration fees, grooming fees, pet insurance subscription fees, and socialization education and training fees, with support up to a maximum of 250,000 KRW per adopted animal. Applicants must prepare invoices, adoption confirmation, detailed receipts, and other required documents and apply to the district office’s Companion Animal Support Division within one year after adoption (in person, via email, or fax).
Additionally, the ‘implanted animal registration cost’ is supported to increase the registration rate of companion animals and prevent the occurrence of lost and abandoned animals. Eligible recipients are residents who register their animals with an implanted RFID device (microchip) at animal hospitals (animal registration agencies) within the district. The support amount is up to 40,000 KRW per animal, with support for up to two animals per household.
When registering an implanted animal at an animal hospital, applicants simply need to fill out the support application form. Support is also provided when changing from existing external animal registration to implanted registration. The same support is available for companion cats that are not subject to mandatory registration. For more details, please contact the Seodaemun-gu Office Companion Animal Support Division.
Mayor Lee Seong-heon said, “We hope that by actively utilizing this support, the number of implanted animal registrations, which serve as a ‘strong fence’ for companion animals, will increase and the adoption of lost and abandoned animals will be revitalized. We will continue to strive to respect animal life rights and create an animal-friendly city where humans and animals coexist.”
