Dangjin City and Korea Tourism Organization Sign Agreement
to Foster Myeoncheon Eupseong as a Small-Scale Potential Tourist Destination
On the 7th, Dangjin City in Chungnam announced that it had signed a business agreement with the Korea Tourism Organization at City Hall for the "Activation of Small-Scale Potential Tourist Destinations."
The signing ceremony was attended by Oh Seonghwan, Mayor of Dangjin, and Shim Hongyong, Head of the Daejeon-Chungnam Branch of the Korea Tourism Organization, among others, who pledged to closely cooperate on projects to activate small-scale potential tourist destinations.
The "Small-Scale Potential Tourist Destination Discovery and Development Project" is a program designed to strengthen the competitiveness of tourist sites with high tourism potential through customized consulting and promotional marketing, supporting their development into leading tourist destinations.
With this agreement, Dangjin City and the Korea Tourism Organization plan to foster Myeoncheon Eupseong as an experiential tourist destination where visitors can stay and enjoy, rather than just a historical site, by providing customized consulting, strengthening promotional marketing, and developing tourism products linked to Myeoncheon Eupseong.
In addition, as they can participate in other projects targeting small-scale potential tourist destinations, it is expected that various future projects will create synergistic effects.
Oh Seonghwan, Mayor of Dangjin, stated, "With systematic support from the Korea Tourism Organization for discovering tourism content, we will do our best to develop tourism content tailored to the region so that Myeoncheon Eupseong can become a new center of cultural tourism that attracts nationwide attention."
Meanwhile, Myeoncheon Eupseong, built in 1439 (21st year of King Sejong's reign), was constructed as a flatland fortress for administrative purposes to realize Confucian political ideals and to defend against Japanese pirates during the late Goryeo and early Joseon periods. It is also where Park Jiweon, a notable figure from Yeonan, served as governor. Today, it is loved by tourists for its diverse historical and cultural tourism resources and programs.
