Acquisition of Power Generation Business License
Proceeding with Environmental Impact Assessment, Ground Investigation, and Basic Design
Ocean Winds, a Spain-based company specializing in offshore wind power projects, announced on the 7th that the 1,125MW fixed-type Hanbando Offshore Wind Power Project, currently being promoted in the Incheon Exclusive Economic Zone, has passed the power generation business license review by the Electricity Commission of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
The power generation business license granted by the Electricity Commission of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy means securing the development rights to produce and supply electricity in a specific area, as well as securing grid connection capacity, setting a new milestone for project development.
Starting with the acquisition of this power generation business license, Hanbando Offshore Wind Power plans to officially begin major permitting procedures, including environmental impact assessments, conduct ground investigations and comprehensive analyses, and actively pursue basic design elements.
Through the Hanbando Offshore Wind Power Project, Ocean Winds is expected to contribute to the Korean government's goal of supplying 125.9GW of renewable energy by 2038 as presented in the '11th Basic Plan for Electricity Supply and Demand,' and play an important role in the local energy policy of Incheon City, which aims to establish a 6.2GW offshore wind power complex by 2030.
Figar Guzman, CEO of Ocean Winds Korea, said, "In recent weeks, Korea's offshore wind industry has made significant progress. The announcement of the '11th Basic Plan for Electricity Supply and Demand' has expanded the country's long-term renewable energy goals, and the 'Special Act on Offshore Wind Power' has been passed. Ocean Winds is confident that the Hanbando Offshore Wind Power Project, which is directly connected to the central metropolitan areas of Seoul and Incheon, will play a pivotal role in achieving Korea's clean energy transition goals."
Ocean Winds (OW) is a company specializing in offshore wind power projects, established as a joint venture between global energy giants EDP Renewables (EDPR) and ENGIE.
