Dobong-gu Selected as an Excellent Autonomous District for Two Consecutive Years in Seoul's Flood and Wind Disaster Safety Measures Evaluation

Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) was recognized for its flood and typhoon response capabilities in the 2024 Flood and Typhoon Safety Measures Evaluation conducted by Seoul City, and was selected as an excellent autonomous district. This marks the second consecutive year of selection following last year.

The district received high praise in this evaluation for its perfect prior preparation and proactive, swift situation response.

Earlier, the city comprehensively assessed the autonomous districts' ability to implement flood and typhoon safety measures related to summer disaster incidents from February to December of last year for this evaluation.

The district made great efforts for a full-scale response to floods and typhoons. It formed a Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters and established an all-around flood and typhoon response system.

Before the flood season, a thorough inspection was conducted under the mayor’s leadership targeting flood-vulnerable areas and flood control facilities.

Along with this, preventive projects were completed including dredging, cleaning, and improvement of sewage pipelines; dredging of 25,774 rainwater inlets and expansion/improvement of 676 sites; installation of 315 sewage manhole fall prevention facilities; and installation of flood prevention facilities in 616 households.

During the flood and typhoon countermeasure period, a total of 64 emergency duty shifts were carried out, and a new flood warning and alert system was implemented to support rapid evacuation of flood-vulnerable households. Through the ‘Companion Partners’ consisting of 122 officials, community leaders, and nearby residents, 143 households at risk of flooding were managed.

Additionally, a ‘River Patrol Team’ composed of 104 members including district employees, police, and voluntary disaster prevention groups was organized to ensure rapid river control and prevent isolation accidents when heavy rain warnings were issued.

Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, stated, “We are doing our best to secure flood control materials including portable and mobile water barriers and to promote resident awareness for thorough prior preparation against summer disasters.” He added, “This year as well, we will ensure the safety of residents by implementing flawless flood and typhoon countermeasures.”
