Kang Hye-kyung, who raised suspicions of political broker Myung Tae-gyun's interference in candidate nominations, appeared at the police station.
The Seoul Bangbae Police Station announced that they questioned Kang as a witness for two hours on the 6th in the afternoon.
Kang Hye-kyung, who raised allegations of Kim Geon-hee's interference in candidate selection, is appearing as a witness at the National Assembly Legislation and Judiciary Committee's National Inspection of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office. Kim Hyun-min is coming.
It is understood that she was asked about allegations that People Power Party lawmaker Cho Eun-hee intervened in the party primary to secure the nomination for the 2022 March by-election in Seoul Seocho-gap.
The police recently received a complaint alleging that the public opinion research firm Mirae Hanguk Research Institute, effectively operated by Myung, interfered in the primary through illegal opinion polls, and are currently investigating the case.
Earlier, the Democratic Party of Korea claimed in November last year that the Mirae Hanguk Research Institute might have conducted unpublished opinion polls. They based this on recorded conversations between Myung and Kang, suggesting that the People Power Party Seocho-gap responsible party member list obtained from lawmaker Cho Eun-hee, who was conducting the party primary in February 2022, was utilized.
Kang, who was the deputy director of the research institute, is also known to have been involved in this investigation.
Cho, who resigned from the Seocho District Office and ran in the by-election, competed in the primary against former lawmakers Lee Hye-hoon, Jung Mi-kyung, Jeon Hee-kyung, and former National Intelligence Service 1st Deputy Director Jeon Ok-hyun, secured the nomination, and was elected with 72.7% of the vote.
