Emigrating to Cebu with Family
Draws the Line at 'Comedian Retirement Rumors'
Comedian Kim Doo-young has reportedly emigrated to Cebu, Philippines with his family.
On the 5th, Kim Doo-young announced the immigration news himself through his Instagram, saying, "On this day, my family and I have left South Korea to start our life as immigrants in a foreign country."
Kim Doo-young stated, "Please support the beginning of the second chapter of my life that I have dreamed of for a long time," and added, "My family and I will live happily and well." He explained, "You might be surprised by the sudden news, but I have been steadily preparing for the lifestyle I dreamed of for some time, and finally, today, we are leaving."
He continued, "Having completed 20 years in the broadcasting industry this year and facing today, I wanted to escape the rapidly changing production environment and the era of quickly consumed overflowing content to live a bit slower and more leisurely in a hot summer country without a definite plan to return," explaining the reason behind his decision to emigrate.
However, he drew a line by saying this is not a retirement from comedy. He said, "I will continue my activities in Cebu," and added, "People ask if this means retirement or giving up being a comedian, but my answer is a challenge. As soon as I arrive, I will actively showcase my abilities in various fields such as YouTube content about adapting to local life and travel business. Leaving Korea does not mean I will stop being a comedian," emphasizing.
Kim Doo-young debuted as an MBC 15th generation public recruitment comedian in 2006 and has appeared in numerous programs such as MBC's 'Gagya', 'Laugh and Laugh Again', tvN's 'SNL Korea' seasons 5 and 6, and 'Comedy Big League', gaining much love. In 2023, he also appeared in Netflix's 'Comedy Royal', actively working in various fields.
