912.3 million KRW to be invested
Wanju County in North Jeolla Province announced on the 6th that it will implement a support program for the early scrapping of old vehicles to reduce emissions such as fine dust.
This year, the county will expand support to vehicles with emission grade 5 using fuels other than diesel, and invest 912.3 million KRW to support 360 vehicles (200 grade 5, 150 grade 4, and 10 forklifts or excavators).
Eligible vehicles for early scrapping support include grade 4 and 5 diesel vehicles (grade 5 includes those using fuels other than diesel), road construction machinery of type 3 manufactured before August 31, 2009, and forklifts or excavators manufactured according to emission standards before December 31, 2004.
To be eligible for the subsidy, vehicles must have been continuously registered in Wanju County for at least six months as of the announcement date.
Additionally, vehicles must not have previously received government or local government support for installing emission reduction devices or converting to low-emission engines. Vehicles must have passed the regular inspection, have a normal operation status on the early scrapping eligibility certificate, and have no outstanding local taxes or other arrears.
Applications can be submitted from the 10th to the 31st by visiting the township or town administrative welfare center or the county's Resource Circulation Division.
If selected, support will be provided according to vehicle type and age: up to 8 million KRW for vehicles under 3.5 tons (grade 4), up to 78 million KRW for vehicles 3.5 tons or more (grade 4), and up to 120 million KRW for construction machinery (forklifts, excavators).
For more details, refer to the notices on the county website or contact the township or town administrative welfare center.
Han Yoonsoo, head of the Resource Circulation Division, said, "As the eligibility for support has been expanded, we hope many residents will benefit. We will continue to improve air quality by reducing emissions such as fine dust through the early scrapping of old diesel vehicles."
